Advent at the Kirk

The season of Advent begins November 29. Advent is a special time each year as we await the birth of the Christ Child by hanging the greens, lighting advent candles, music, children's play and more.

Since we will not be able to gather together in person the Kirk staff and volunteers are letting the creativity flow including a virtual Christmas Play, DIY Advent Wreaths, and more.

In the coming weeks we will be making announcements that Advent "prepare" kits will be available at the Kirk for pick-up or delivery. A box will be made for each household with supplies for making an advent wreath, Christmas Eve Candles, and an Advent devotional.

  • Sanctuary Prayer Stations

As our sanctuary is a holy place always and especially at Christmas, we will invite all Kirk families to sign up for a time to be in the sanctuary for Advent prayer stations. Prayer stations will be set up throughout the sanctuary for you and your family to journey through together with Carols playing and the Christmas tree lit. Make a commitment in this strange year to engage your faith in your preparedness for Christmas. Spaces are available December 18-24. You can sign up for a time HERE or by emailing

  • Deck the Halls

Everything about this year is different but there are some traditions we cannot let go of. Each year prior to the first Sunday of Advent, volunteers decorate the church for Christmas. Although we are not gathering together during this season, there will be offerings in the Sanctuary during Advent for individuals to engage in addition to hosting our livestream from there each week. Therefore we are asking volunteers to sign up to help prepare the space for the holidays.

We will only be decorating the sanctuary and so we are looking for households who are quarantined together to come and do a specific part of the set up. See this link to our sign up genius to sign up for a particular decorating job and please specify the time so we ensure the building is open for you and that no one else plans to be there. Thank you so much for helping us create a sacred Christmas space! Sign up HERE

  • Children's Play

The Children's Christmas play will take place remotely this year. Jackie is already working hard on this special project. If you would like to participate, please talk to Jackie as soon as possible. We are planning to share our finished efforts for the December 13th worship service.

  • Mission Christmas: Hope and Home

For many years we during the holidays we have collected gifts for local non-profits to be provided to children in need. This year the Kirk Mission Team is excited to partner with our new renters: Hope and Home, to help the foster children they serve have a wonderful Christmas holiday. We will be collecting NEW, UNWRAPPED gifts for these children ages 0-18 beginning this month through December 14. The foster parents will be able to come into their shop and pick out gifts for the children in their care.

Since we are not worshipping in person you can get your gift to them by:

    1. Emailing the church office at to schedule a drop off time

    2. Request a pick-up also by contacting the church office by December 3.

For some ideas of gifts Hope and Home made an Amazon Wishlist you can find here: Hope and Home Wishlist. Gift cards are also accepted and encouraged for older children.

  • Powered by love

The Green Justice Team’s focus this year has been on the 5 R’s: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Refuse and Rot. All of these contribute to living a sustainable life where we celebrate Earth Day Everyday. The past two years we have invited the Kirk community to participate in gift giving that supports our earth and our neighbors (remember our gifts of trees and water filtration systems for partners in Fondwa, Haiti). This year we are focused closer to home and invite the church to join us in giving the gift of sustainable energy through Energy Outreach Colorado. Your gift of $30 will provide energy to a local home in need for one month (due to their resources and efforts toward sustainable energy use).

You may purchase this as a gift through our donate page and we will email you a gift card to give to your loved one letting them know the gift you bought them that gives to others. *Be sure to include your email when you make your donation. If you have questions, contact Ann at

  • Blue Christmas

As the days grow shorter, the shadows of loss and grief seem to grow longer. Each year during the holiday season we join with nearby UCC churches for a service to acknowledge the pain and lean into God's light.

We will gather with 6th Ave. UCC, Wash Park UCC and others on Sunday, December 20 on Zoom. Login details in the December newsletter. Mark your calendar for this service and invite those you know who need space created for suffering amidst the holidays to join you.

  • Christmas Eve Worship

December 24 at 5:3o p.m. we will gather on Zoom and Facebook for a virtual Christmas Eve Worship. Join us for a time of carols, and candle light. If you know that you will have extended family with you for Christmas eve, please the office know how many candles you need by November 20.
