Spiritual Growth and Fellowship in Small Group Opportunities

Three small groups have been developed whose purpose is to provide fellowship and opportunities to take the next steps on our journeys of faith.  Each group will be selecting it own study material.  As meeting times and places are established and as study materials are selected we will keep you informed.

The Wednesday Noon group will begin with a light catered lunch at 12:00 each Wednesday in the fellowship hall.  The study portion of the gathering will begin at 12:30.  Fee: $5.00 for lunch.  Reservations are needed.

The Friday and Saturday evening fellowship and study groups will meet once a month on an evening established by those participating in each group.  We begin with our study and then share in a pot luck meal.

If you would like to participate in one of these groups, please contact Rev. Sirnic and he will help you get in touch with each group’s leadership.

If you would like to start a study group that will meet at a different time please contact Mark to get help with starting your ministry opportunity.

KIRK VITALITY TEAM

  • The Prayer Team is a gathering of people who are committed to praying for the renewed efforts of the congregation and for the neighborhood around the church and the neighborhoods where our people live.
  • The Community Networking Team’s purpose is to talk with people in the community to develop a picture of the hopes, dreams, needs, and concerns of the community.
  • The Strategy Team has the task of teaching us how to share our faith story as individuals and the story about our community of faith.  And they are also charged with planning activities, programs and events that will be on target with the information gathered by the research team.
  • The Hospitality Team is to make sure that the first visit of a guest is handled well and that everything goes smoothly.  They are also charged with the task of making sure that guests “connect” with members and other guests

The Strategy team has created a list of activities we want to offer to the community. Many items on the list have been adopted by different individuals and groups at the Kirk, but we want to make you aware of the things we hope to be doing in the months to come. Community Networking Team

This month, we are continuing our summary of key data on our community, bounded by Colorado on the east and Downing on the west, I-25 on the south and Alameda/Exposition on the north.

In December, we reported that the households in our community are primarily represented by three "lifestyle" segments: Rising Potential Professionals (47% of the households), Educated Mid-Life Families (23%) and Educated New Starters (17%).

Associated with these segments are data on their worship preferences.

  • With regard to worship style, of those with a preference, more prefer worship hat is both emotionally uplifting and intellectually challenging (38%). The preference for worship that is intellectually challenging (18%) exceeds the national average, which is 11%
  • More prefer a contemporary/informal service (31%) and this exceeds the national average of 26%. But 22% stilll prefer traditional/formal, so there is room for both of our types of services.
  • With regard to music style, again, preferences are divided, with 28% preferring traditional music and 25% preferring contemporary music. Compared to the U.S. averages, fewer say they prefer both styles or have no preference.
  • With regard to church focus, 36% prefer a church to emphasize both community involvement and personal spiritual development, compared to 23% who prefer community involvement and 17% who prefer personal spiritual development.
  • There is a strong preference for a church to emphasize local mission (35%) compared to global mission *8%), but 20% prefer a church to emphasize both.

Copies of the full report from the Community Networking Team are now available in the office. This report was presented February 22.

Hospitality Team Update

The Hospitality Team is making progress to be sure guests can easily find the worship services, are appropriately welcomed, connected with members and have a favorable impression of the church. Highlights this month were as follows:

  • Establishing a Welcoming team for the 10:45 worship service.
  • Transforming the old preschool room into a Welcoming Center. We have been able to do some quality decorating on a shoestring budget due to some small cash donations. If you like what you're seeing and look forward to the completion of the team's vision ofr the room, we would welcome cash donations.

Grocery Gift Cards

Some of our older church members are moving out of their homes and into retirement communities where their meals are furnished.  They no longer purchase the grocery gift cards.  If the grocery gift card account is to keep assisting in the church’s financial obligations at $600 per quarter, other church members who haven’t been participating in the program need to take up the slack.

The church makes 5% on the sale of these grocery gift cards, which is a great help to its financial well-being .  We know that everyone must eat.  Therefore, please consider purchasing these gift cards so the account can maintain its current status and provide financial assistance with church expenses.  King Soopers and Safeway cards are available in $100 and $25 denominations.

Go Green - Pull the Plug.

Even if they are not in use, common household appliances and electronics such as microwaves, computers, DVD players and televisions use power when plugged in.  This not only increases your electric bill but increases overall energy consumption—a television that is plugged in but not in use can use as much as 20 watts per hour.  Help curb your energy consumption:  unplug items you rarely use; once portable devices are charged up, unplug the charge from the outlet; and use electronics only as needed.  A simple step to a healthier planet!
